$25,000 to fund research in pancreatic enzymes and egg proteins applications’ development

Located in Abbotsford (British Columbia, Canada), Neova Technologies Inc. is an integrated, specialty pharmaceutical manu- facturer dedicated to the development of the highest quality food ingredients and enzymes using natural, renewable sources for the healthcare, food, and feed industries. There will be only one award per year granted to the successful candidate who must be affiliated with a Canadian university or a Canadian government research institution. Neova Technologies Inc. will provide funding and material for research in applications development for any of the following pancreatic enzymes or egg proteins:

faviconPorcine Pancreatic Enzymes

Neova technologies Inc. TRYPSIN

Trypsin digests proteins by hydrolyzing bonds at carboxyl groups contributed by lysine (Lys) and arginine (Arg). Tryp- sin preparations are available with chymotrypsin (which cleaves Phe, Tyr and Trp) or as purified products after further purification resulting in chymotrypsin reduction. These products are commonly used in the dairy, cheese industries whereas the purified forms are commonly used in pharma and tissue culture applications.

PANCREATIN

Pancreatin extracts contain a variety of proteolytic enzymes including trypsin, chymotrypsin, carboxypeptidase B, and elastase. The product also contains amylase, and lipase. Because of its enzymatic portfolio, this preparation can digest a variety of protein complexes and has many applications in the dairy industry in the production of hypoallergenic milk products.

PLA2

Phospholipase A2 cleaves fatty acids at the second posi- tion in phospholipids. As a highly stable protein, it resists heat and has a long shelf-life when stored as a liquid. This enzyme is used to hydrolyse phospholipids in milk, yolk, and soy to improve the various properties including emulsification.

LYSOZYME

Lysozyme is a natural anti-microbial protein that has been successfully used in foods and pharmaceuticals for almost thirty years. It acts by disrupting the peptidoglycan layer of bacterial cell walls.

OVOMUCOID

Ovomucoid is a trypsin inhibitor; preventing bacterial growth by inhibiting bacterial proteases. Because of its antitryptic activity, this egg white protein is used in tissue culture applications during virus propagation, replacing fetal calf serum.

OVOTRANSFERRIN

Ovotransferrin is an iron-binding protein, sequestering iron and preventing growth of potentially harmful micro-organisms.

OVALBUMIN

Ovalbumin is the predominant protein in egg-white which provides nutrients to the developing embryo and has many applications as a stabiliser in diagnostic kits.

AVIDIN

Avidin has an extremely strong binding for biotin (vitamin H) with high specificity and is commonly used in affinity chromatography.

Entegard

Entegard is a unique lysozyme blend, specifically designed for animal health applications in place of antibiotics.
